Keep Calories Under control And Progress Momentum Up

If BBQ weather is set to continue, and as long as we all continue to practice social distancing, we can enjoy each-others company in person once again, along with gaining back some normality to our lives. The one thing that people are craving is social, in person, interaction. It’s one of our basic human needs, to belong.

Zoom calls are great, Quizzes are getting old, but I must say, I’ve never talked to my friends as much as I have since lockdown, which has to be a good thing right?

The irony is deafening

Coming through this pandemic unscathed mentally and physically has got to be the priority, but more than likely some poor habits have formed in terms of food and alcohol consumption and in some cases exercise.

There’s a few unwanted pounds here and there that we have gained since this all began, I’m sure we would prefer to have shifted. Now we will have more human interaction over the coming weeks and months, so there is a strong possibility that you are trying to change those habits in a bid to help those clothes fit more comfortably. If you are, well done, it’s not easy, especially going it alone.

But don’t lock yourself away and think you shouldn’t go to a BBQ with friends and enjoy reconnecting because you think it will knock you off kilter and ruin your progress.

There’s no reason why a good BBQ should derail your progress or shouldn’t be part of a healthy sustainable eating plan

Below is some better choices, with just as much taste, with little or no sacrifice that you can use at your next BBQ.

  • Smarter Food Options

Homemade Burgers (3-4% Fat, Use egg, onions to bind, No Buns)

Fillet Steaks (Leanest Steaks)

Chicken Breast (Marinade In Franks Hot sauce)

Vegetables Surf & Turf Skewers

Salad

  • Lower Calorie Alcoholic Drinks

Vodka & Soda Water & Fresh Lime

Corona Light

Orchard Thieves Light

Gin & Slim Line Tonic

  • Better Calorie Deserts

Freezing Breakfast Smoothies In Ice Pop Trays

Ingredients (Soak Chia Seeds  in water overnight, Frozen Berries, Greek Yoghurt, Banana, Organic Honey To Taste, Water/Oat Milk, Ice)

Blend & Freeze

  • Stay Hydrated

Drink good quality  bottled/filtered water (higher mineral content and less contamination) to stay hydrated, before, during and after, especially if alcohol is consumed and the sun is out.

  • Pace Yourself & Get Some Sleep

Because we are all in lockdown, the minute we get a sniff of being let out, knowing us Irish, we will be dieing to be social and go hell for leather, drink too much and stay too long. Pace yourself if consuming alcohol and leave at a reasonable hour, as those 8 valuable hours of sleep will help control your cravings the next day and prevent over calorie consumption.
